Requirements to be Considered Advanced Degree in USA

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

The North American market has increasingly attracted highly skilled professionals with advanced degrees due to its job market value, recognition, and opportunities for further research. For these highly qualified individuals, the U.S. government has established options for permanent residency visas, known as EB-1 and EB-2 visas.

An advanced degree for a foreign is an academic qualification equivalent to education beyond a bachelor's degree. This academic achievement, combined with five years of progressive experience in the field, is deemed equivalent to a master's degree in the United States, qualifying the professional for the advanced degree category. However, if the professional's field of expertise requires a Ph.D., they must possess the relevant qualification or an equivalent degree.

Furthermore, to qualify as a professional with advanced training, often referred to as an advanced degree holder, the beneficiary must be a member of the profession in which they qualify or its foreign equivalent, and their position must be certified in the permanent labor certification program. Additionally, the beneficiary must meet all other requirements necessary for obtaining EB-1 or EB-2 visas.
